What to watch while you walk
The trick: make it something you only get on the treadmill.
The treadmill-only rule#
Pick one show, podcast or audiobook you genuinely want to get to, and only let yourself have it while walking. Researchers call it temptation bundling; most of us call it bribery. It works.
Shows that pair well#
- Comfort sitcoms with 20-minute episodes: one episode, one walk.
- Cooking and baking competitions: low stakes, easy to follow without full attention.
- Home makeover and travel shows: lots to look at, little dialogue to miss.
- Documentary series: one episode a day makes a habit.
- Avoid anything with subtitles if reading while walking makes you dizzy.
Podcasts and audiobooks#
Great when there's no screen in front of the treadmill. Comedy and story podcasts make time fly; audiobooks turn a month of walking into several finished books.
Music at walking tempo#
Songs around 100–120 beats per minute match a comfortable walking pace; 120–130 suits brisk stretches. Search your music app for a "walking playlist" or "120 BPM" playlist, or build your own 10-song list so it doubles as a timer.
Set it up once#
A tablet stand on the console, a phone holder, or a TV angled toward the treadmill removes one more excuse. Keep headphones charged and next to your shoes.
