- Step 1
We admitted our treadmill had become furniture.
And that our life had become a little unmanageable around the laundry pile.
Every treadmill owner knows the moment. You walk past it, there's a jacket on the handrail, a basket on the belt, and you feel a small hot flash of guilt. Then you keep walking, because looking at it any longer means admitting something.
Step one is just saying it out loud: this machine has become furniture. That's it. Not "I'm lazy," not "I always quit," not a speech about willpower. Furniture is a fact about a room, not a verdict about a person, and facts are things you can change by Thursday.
The reason this matters is that shame is heavy and heavy things don't move. Naming the problem plainly, with a little humor, takes the weight off so you can actually do something about it.
Walk over to the treadmill and look at it on purpose. Say "you're a treadmill again starting this week." Yes, out loud.
